“Dad, you never pay attention.”His daughter, the night it changed
Meet Dr. Mousab
Most Burnout Advice Comes From People Who Left Healthcare. I Didn’t.
I still work full time in pulmonary and critical care, I burned out after years of 80-hour weeks, and I’m a certified high performance coach. I know what your shifts cost you, and I know how to help you get it back.

His Path in Medicine
Thirteen years in pulmonary and critical care. Every tool he teaches was tested on his own shifts first.
2013 to 2020
Pulmonary and ICU together, close to 80 hours a week. Looking fine on the outside, burning out on the inside.
The turning point
His daughter said it quietly one night. He was home, and his mind was still on the unit. That is when everything started to change.
2020 to 2021
A year as an ICU physician only, and the start of building a different way to practice.
2021 to 2025
Mostly ICU, including stretches of 84-hour weeks, while testing every tool on his own shifts first.
Since May 2025
Full-time pulmonary and critical care, and coaching healthcare professionals through The Purposeful Doctor.
WHAT HE BELIEVES
You were trained to save lives, not to sacrifice your own. These three ideas sit underneath everything Dr. Mousab teaches.
Burnout grows out of a system that rewards overwork. The first step is seeing exactly what is draining you, and setting down what was never yours to carry alone.
When you pause long enough to ask what you want from this career, new options appear. That is where purpose and steadiness start to come back.
You do not have to quit. You need tools, boundaries, and clarity that serve your purpose as well as the system you work in.
How It All Started
His daughter, one night after another long shift
One night, in the middle of charting after another long shift, my daughter looked up at me and quietly said, “Dad, you never pay attention.”
That comment hit me harder than any difficult case. I was working hard and looking fine on the outside, and I was not actually living.
From that moment I started building a different way to practice: staying in medicine, and learning to show up with more presence, purpose, and clarity. Now I help other healthcare professionals do the same.
Dr. Mousab
The most powerful transformation in healthcare doesn’t start with a new system. It starts with one person deciding to live differently.
It starts with you.
Every program, from the free ICU Reset to Rounds Society, draws on the same five areas.
Regulate the stress response, reset your mind in minutes with the 4-Minute Mind Reset, and stop carrying the weight of the system.
Protect your energy, set boundaries, and make simple changes that give you more control over your schedule and your life.
Get out of survival mode, reconnect with your why, and make decisions that line up with what matters to you.
Build support with colleagues and mentors who understand, and handle hard conversations with patients, colleagues, and leadership.
Decide what the next chapter of your career looks like, on your terms.
